Peace By Piece printed knitting pattern
A 53-page, ring bound booklet with full colour, detailed instructions and buckets in inspiration!
Welcome to the Peace by Piece blanket pattern. 144 squares of colour, joy and peace.
I started knitting these squares at a time when I was very anxious, and wanting a ‘small’ project that could keep my hands and mind occupied. Small may sound ironic given the size of the blanket, however working a square at a time has the wonderful side effect of slowing down the pace whilst giving the dopamine hit of a quick knit. And so came the name, invented by a lovely Instagram follower: Peace By Piece.
In this pattern, you’ll find a list of materials needed, detailed instructions with photos and links to videos, layout guidance and finally, the patterns themselves. You can replicate the blanket exactly, or let your creativity run free with your own colour combinations.
I really hope you enjoy this project as much as I’ve loved creating it. Join in on social media and share your creations - and most importantly, feel at peace!
TOOLS
- 5mm/US size 8 needles (I use DPNS as they’re portable)
- 5mm/US size 8 crochet hook
- Darning needle
- Blocking pins and board
- 5mm/US size 8 long circular needle for the edging if adding a mitred border
If you use a different weight of yarn, match your needles to your yarn weight.
YARN
This blanket is designed to be knitted in Aran/Worsted yarn. The heavier weight of this yarn gives the blanket the most fantastic drape, weight and works perfectly with the scale of the patterns. I used Drops Nepal, but there are alternatives suggested in this pattern.
Please feel inspired to experiment and vary the weight and composition of yarn you use! It would look fantastic knitted in a DK weight yarn, or a bulky yarn for a completely different feel and scale.
Included in the product images is a guide to the 21 colours used in the original blanket with estimated quantities to the nearest 50g. I have used generic colour names throughout the pattern to avoid confusion for those using other yarn brands.
Please note - quantities are an approximation, and may vary depending on your tension
